Images from a range of available jute ropes
Dark bark – harder, wiry, woody shorter filaments from the cane inner wall. May run for several centimetres.
Cutting – hard, sharp cane chip from harvesting
Speck – blemish generated by insects, bacteria, disease, etc. May be less than 1mm long to over a centimetre. More problematic with distribution and size.
Coarse filament – generally, dried, brittle filament from close to the inner cane wall.
Root – a serious low strength imperfection. Dark brown or ruddy root matter grown in moist conditions. May extend over tens of centimeters.
Waste – foreign bodies, often picked up in transport, or from the factory floor.
Habijabi tangle – fiber matted at carding and spun into the yarn.
Not shown:
Break – a full break in a yarn, generally caused by breakage/loss of an impurity, especially if twist dynamics are excessive.
Dust – loose jute dust content twisted into the yarn, strand, and/or rope, either picked up from the factory floor, and/or process machinery, and/or process environment.
